Beach Vacation Getaways

on Florida's East Coast

(St Augustine Beach in March)

When most people think of Florida's east coast, beach vacation getaways are not what usually come to mind. In fact, we generally envision places like South Beach with high fashioned bikini bodies, Cocoa Beach's great surfing, or Spring Break at Daytona. Quiet time on the beach doesn't seem to fit these equations. However, there are many places that can actually give you the quiet relaxation that you crave. You just need to know where to look. There are lots of little beach communities that are tucked away from the fast lane and hiding in plain sight. For example, there are lots of little towns just south of Cocoa Beach that work, however finding a really good one takes some work. For a really great beach vacation getaways, let's change our thinking & direction a little and move up the east coast instead of down. Here I will show you some places that you will love to visit for some serious away time.

    Palm Coast

About 30 miles north of Daytona, there are several little communities that have some very nice quiet beaches. Flagler beach, being a little more known, has 5 different public parks with facilities and showers. They are excellent for everything from surfing to turtle watching. Locals hang out around the municipal pier, where several restaurants and gift shops can be found.

    St Augustine

This is one of those towns that, after spending just a little bit of time in, you feel like you could live here. It is the oldest city in the U.S., and has lots to explore. Rich in history, it has plenty of very unique things to see and do, yet being a relatively small town, things can be done at a relaxing pace. You can even go to a park where Ponce De Leon found the spring he thought was the “Fountain of Youth”. Talk about coming back rejuvenated!

Henry Flagler also founded Flagler college here. Over the years, this has brought in a nice arrangement of eclectic shops, cafes, and restaurants. Oh, by the way, there is also a great beach here!

    Amelia Island

This community is a barrier island that is about as far north in Florida that you can get. Located off the coast just south of the Georgia/Florida border, this is 13-miles of beautiful beaches, abundant wildlife, and pristine waters. Amelia Island welcomes you with a colorful history and breath-taking natural beauty. There are both local style accommodations as well as a few high-end resorts. All this makes for place that has become a favorite romantic setting for weddings and beach vacation getaways.
